Whole School Well-being Day 2023

On Tuesday 11th July 2023 we held our annual whole school well-being day at Birchgrove Comprehensive.  Special thanks go to Mrs Davies head of PE who liaised with staff, pupils and outside agencies to bring us a well organised event the pupils seemed to thoroughly enjoy!  Each form class had 5 different one-hour well-being sessions to show our pupils that there are many different forms of activities that can be both beneficial and harmful to our well-being.

Our year 7 pupils were lucky enough to be visited by the Navy who put them through their paces.  They also had a talk on the benefits of healthy eating, another activity they participated in was a ‘treasure hunt walk’ where pupils had clues to solve while going on a supervised walk of the local area, the winner of each group getting a prize, of course it contained fruit, nice and healthy considering the kind of day we were having ;) A gender equality talk plus a demonstration on the contents of energy drinks were also on the agenda!

Year 8 pupils had a very important talk on water safety.  They also benefitted from a gender equality discussion and a healthy eating lesson with our school nurse.  The YMCA came in to talk about young carers and our pupils also revisited the dangers of vaping/smoking.

Year 9 pupils had discussions on the importance of staying safe online, while another lesson was about the importance of water safety, particularly important to remember in the warm summer months!  Our year 9 pupils also learned about the dangers of smoking and or vaping along with the damage risky pics can do to one’s confidence/mental health/reputation.  It wasn’t all doom and gloom this well-being day though, they had an absolute blast during their teambuilding exercises, there are many photographs that can attest to this!

For our year 10 pupils, they had discussions on the harm gambling can do to their well-being, they had a talk and workshop on STI’s plus contraception and some down time on the yoga mats with music some lovely essential oils!  The police came in to chat to our pupils along with Barnardo’s.

Thank you so much once again to both the staff and the outside agencies for giving up their time to talk to our pupils.  Your contribution helped the day go successfully and all our pupils enjoyed, even if the weather didn’t quite behave for the outside activities!  All 200+ photographs that were taken on the day can be viewed here – Whole School Well-being day Photographs or simply go to back to the tabs and click under the News tab and find galleries
